Write Stuff winner 2017 picked

The LBF 2017 The Write Stuff winner was Rochelle Bugg, who won with her pitch for Help! My Mum’s Got Cancer

It was standing room only at LBF for the third year of the now-famous The Write Stuff, a Dragon's Den-style pitching session where a selection of six budding authors stand up and pitch to a panel of agents.

This year's agents were Laura Williams from PFD, Euan Thorneycroft from AM Heath, Piers Blofeld from Sheil Land, and Camilla Wray from Darley Anderson.

From six strong pitches, the agents selected Rochelle Bugg as the winner with Help! My Mum’s Got Cancer, a 20-something’s guide to caring and coping (without going crazy) when a loved one is ill.

Bugg then had the opportunity to turn the tables on the agents and choose which one she would like to have a follow-up meeting with. She selected PDF's Laura Williams.

Last year's winner, Natalie Hart, now signed with Ella Kahn at DKW, was also interviewed while the agents were deliberating over the winner. Reflecting on the process of writing, rejection and finding an agent, she said: "Just enjoy it. It's a long and difficult process and you just have to embrace every part of that. You have to be good at rejection: it's part of writing."
