Tom Marcus signed for two fiction and one non-fiction titles

Pan Macmillan has acquired world rights to a new work of non-fiction and two novels by former MI5 surveillance officer Tom Marcus from Luigi Bonomi at Luigi Bonomi Associates.

The non-fiction will be published on the Sidgwick & Jackson imprint in October 2018 and be a lead title from Pan Macmillan.

Jamie Coleman, senior editor, Macmillan Non-Fiction said: "Tom Marcus will take us inside one of the most shocking terrorist attacks ever plotted on British soil and show what living in the shadows does to the men and women who protect us. There really is no one to touch Tom Marcus - his writing hums with first-hand experience taking us behind the headlines to the daily battles against terror attacks taking place all around us. We're proud to be his publisher."

Tom Marcus’ first novel, Capture or Kill will publish in early 2018, with a second novel to follow in 2019.

Wayne Brookes, associate publisher, fiction said: "In the last few years or so I've turned down so many novels aimed at a male readership. It's not that they weren't great reads, but for me they simply lacked the authenticity that I believe is needed to get a reader hooked on this particular genre of fiction. Tom Marcus has lived and breathed Capture or Kill. This novel is him giving the reader the deepest of insights into what's it's like to be a spy on the streets of the UK. The way Tom recalls his experiences and connects with the reader I knew I wanted to publish this new fiction series."

Marcus said: "I feel honoured and humbled to be part of the Macmillan family, who have proved to be incredibly forward thinking. I'm a big believer in working with the right people, being part of a team filled with experts in their own right and listening to their advice, after all no one can do any of this on their own.

"The next few years are going to be extremely exciting and I'm thrilled that I'll be with Macmillan every step of the way.I'd especially like to thank my literary agent Luigi Bonomi, and my publishers Jamie Coleman and Wayne Brookes. I couldn't do any of this without you."

Bonomi said: "In all my years as an agent, I don’t think I’ve seen this level of film and television interest in an author. Working with Emily Hayward of the Artists Partnership, our film and TV agent, we now have three projects in development with some of the most exciting production companies in Britain and along with this new book deal, this positions Tom as the most exciting debut writer in this space."

His first book, Soldier, Spy has sold more than 60,000 copies since it was published by Michael Joseph last October.
