Walliams is Irish Christmas Number One

Mammoth sales for The Ice Monster which is also Ireland's bestselling children's book of 2018, with Eleanor Oliphant as the year's overall bestseller

The Ice Monster (HarperCollins Children's), by David Walliams, with illustrations by Tony Ross, is Ireland's Number One in Christmas week, with 8,095 copies sold, according to Nielsen figures. The Ice Monster has been Number One in the Irish chart every week since publication six weeks ago. Michelle Obama's Becoming (Viking), which is the UK's Christmas Number One, is Ireland's Number One in the Hardback Non Fiction chart, with 6,843 copies sold.

The Ice Monster is also the bestselling children's book of the year to date with 31,103 copies sold. The overall bestselling book of the year so far is Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine (Harper), by Gail Honeyman, with 57,399 copies sold this year, followed by The Tattooist of Auschwitz (Zaffre), by Heather Morris (37,346 copies sold).

Oh My God, What a Complete Aisling (Gill Books), by Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen, which was last year's Christmas Number One in Ireland, has sold 37,104 copies overall in Ireland this year, bringing it to second place after Eleanor Oliphant on the Mass Market Fiction list.
