Final seasonal selection before promotion becomes monthly

The Independent Booksellers Children's Book of the Season for Winter is The Storm Keeper's Island by Catherine Doyle. The promotion is organised by the Booksellers Association (BA) Children's Bookselling Group, which is to move it to a monthly schedule from January.

The Storm Keeper's Island (Bloomsbury) is a tale of adventure and magic set on Arranmore Island, and is the debut middle grade novel by Doyle, author of the YA Blood for Blood trilogy (Chicken House). Last week, it was announced as the winner of the middle grade category at the 2018 Books are My Bag Readers' Awards.

Doyle said: "If I could condense this magical year into a Storm Keeper's candle, it would definitely invoke the memory of all of the wonderful and welcoming independent bookshops I have visited this year. I look forward to visiting even more as Fionn's adventures continue in 2019."

The promotion begins today (19 November), and runs until the end of the year. The BA and independent booksellers are running a social media campaign, and there are posters, bookmarks and other point of sale material.

Emma Bradshaw, head of campaigns at the BA, said: "As demonstrated by its win at the Books Are My Bag Readers Awards, this exciting and popular title resonates with both children and booksellers."
