Short stories award shortlist

The shortlist for the Edge Hill Short Story Prize has been announced at the Writing on the Wall Festival in Liverpool. The prize - the only one in the UK for a short story collection - is organised by Edge Hill University, and sponsored by Blackwell's. It offers £5,000 to the winner, £1,000 to the runner-up, and £1,000 to the winner of a readers' prize. It will be announced on 4 July. The shortlist is:
Chris Beckett The Turing Test (Elastic Press)
Gerard Donovan Country of the Grand (Faber)
Anne Enright Yesterday's Weather (Vintage)
Shena Mackay The Atmospheric Railway (Cape)
Ali Smith The First Person and Other Stories (Hamish Hamilton).
