Four-book deal for British writer; Unicorn Diaries titles is aimed at newly independent readers
Scholastic US has bought a new series, Unicorn Diaries, by British writer and illustrator Rebecca Elliott, scheduled for US publication in 2020. Scholastic senior editor Katie Carella agreed the deal for World Rights for four titles with Laetitia Rutherford at Watson, Little.
Elliott is the author of the USA Today-bestselling series Owl Diaries (Scholastic), which has four million books in print worldwide, and Zoo Girl, which was nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal.
Unicorn Diaries is aimed at newly independent readers and will be out in the US in 2020, with each 80-page book featuring full-colour illustration throughout. The series stars 'the young unicorn Bo Tinseltail as she records the details of her life in her diary. Bo lives in the enchanted Sparklegrove Woods surrounded by fellow unicorns and a charming array of other magical creatures. The series follows Bo's adventures as she attends Unicorn school and explores her bewitching home.'
Carella said: "We are thrilled to bring young readers another engaging early chapter book series from Rebecca Elliott. Rebecca has brought these unicorn characters and their magical fantasy world to life. And we cannot wait for young readers to discover them all in this adorable new series!"
Elliott said: "So I get to work again with a publisher I love and make up stories about cute unicorns sneezing glitter. I mean, seriously, how lucky am I?"
