Sandi's best girls

Sandi Toksvig (above right, with her publisher, Philippa Dickinson of Random House Children's Books) spoke about various girls who were best at the launch of her new book, Girls Are Best, at the Women's Library on Wednesday (26 November). She paid tribute to her late agent, Pat Kavanagh, and to the work of the Women's Library and of the Womankind Charity. And she spoke about one of her favourite women in the book, Princess Khutulun, the niece of Kublai Khan. The Princess would wrestle any man who wanted to marry her, at a price if he lost of 100 horses; she ended up with 10,000 horses, and never married.
