Picturebook about a circus of dreams

Nell Gifford, founder of much-loved Giffords Circus, last week celebrated the publication of her picturebook Nell and the Circus of Dreams (OUP), illustrated by Briony May Smith, with a dinner at the circus HQ, Fennells Farm in Stroud. The dinner followed the dress rehearsal of Giffords' colourful, 1970s-themed new show Xanadu.

The picturebook is about a sad little girl who dreams of the magic and warmth of a circus - and the pictures look like Giffords. Guests included Jane Churchill of Stratford and Stroud Literary Festivals (and literary scout), Caroline Hill-Trevor of BookTrust, booksellers Nic and Juliette Bottomley of Mr B's Emporium in Bath with their daughter Leah, literary agent Gill McLay, and staff of OUP.
