Appearance to promote memoir Becoming at O2 Arena in April
Following her high-profile visit to London last Monday (3 December), Michelle Obama has announced that she will be returning to the UK for a further event based on her best-selling memoir, Becoming, which is published by Penguin in the UK.
As part of her book tour, Becoming: An Intimate Conversation with Michelle Obama, organised by Live Nation, Obama will appear at London's O2 Arena on Sunday 14 April. Tickets go on sale via O2 presale at 12.30pm today (12 December), via Live Nation presale at 1pm on Thursday (13 December) and on general sale at 1pm on Friday (14 December).
It was also announced that Becoming was the bestselling book across the UK and Ireland last week, selling over 116,000 copies across all editions, including 99,904 hardbacks (source TCM). This is its biggest week of sales since publication on Tuesday 13 November. It is the fastest selling non-fiction title of the year in the UK, with over 375,000 copies sold since publication. To date, more than 3m copies of Becoming have sold in the US and Canada, meaning it has sold more copies than any other book published in the US in 2018.
As well as the event in London, Mrs Obama has announced events in five other cities across Europe – Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Paris, and Amsterdam – as well as 15 further events across the US and Canada.
She said: "I couldn't be more excited to visit even more cities across the country and around the world. I've been so humbled by the response to the tour thus far and the overwhelming interest we've received from so many communities we weren't able to visit this year. That's why I'm thrilled that we're able to expand our conversations to these new settings and wider audiences. I can't wait to continue the discussions that have been so meaningful for me and, I hope, for so many others."
