McEwan, Winterson among authors in Southbank summer programme

Summer literature highlights announced

Ian McEwan, James Ellroy, Jeanette Winterson and Robert Macfarlane will star during the summer literature season at the Southbank Centre in London.

The centre will launch a year-long residency with Out-Spoken, which will present three evenings of poetry and live music featuring Raymond Antrobus, Inua Ellams, Ilya Kaminsky, Sabrina Mahfouz, Kei Miller, Morgan Parker, Brian Patten, Hannah Sullivan and Rebecca Tamas, alongside monthly poetry masterclasses. Polari, the LGBTQ+ literary salon, will return; Hisham Matar will discuss his work in relation to artist Kader Attia's solo exhibition at the Hayward Gallery; Kit de Waal will discuss her new anthology Common People with contributors Louise Doughty and Katy Massey; and, for the first time, there will be Man Booker International Prize readings, showcasing the 2019 shortlist.
