Expands into the streets of Ledbury

The Ledbury Poetry Festival has released a preview of its 2017 programme, the 21st. The festival will run from 30 June to 9 July.

Stars at the festival will include actors Juliet Stevenson and Ann Mitchell, pottery entrepreneur Emma Bridgewater, and poets Vahni Capildeo, Denise Riley, Helen Mort, John Hegley, Inua Ellams, and Kayo Chingonyi, as well as Ledbury's 2017 poet in residence Fiona Sampson.

To celebrate 21 years the festival will expand onto the streets of Ledbury with a programme of outdoor events including Outdoor Magic, a community project that will create artwork to wrap the town in poetry, and a marathon Poetry As Protest reading. Ledbury's own William Langland will be celebrated with Fair Field, an outdoor reimagining of his epic medieval poem Piers Plowman; and there will be a series of multilingual poetry performances titled Seven Airs.

Ledbury will host its first Translation Slam in collaboration with Sasha Dugdale and Modern Poetry in Translation. Versopolis will again celebrate the best emerging European poets.

The full line up will be announced when tickets go on sale on 18 May.
