To Simon Spanton at Gollancz, THE THIEF TAKER'S APPRENTICE (autumn 2010) and two further novels in a young adult fantasy series by Stephen Deas. Gollancz has world rights through agent John Jarrold. The author's debut, The Adamantine Palace, has just appeared, and will be followed by King of the Crags in spring 2010. Deas has worked as a systems designer for aerospace companies.
Spanton says: 'Following the success of The Adamantine Palace, it only seemed natural to approach John and ask if Steve would be interested in writing something for our upcoming YA list. And I shouldn t have been surprised that the material Steve came up with would prove to be exactly what I was looking for a fast moving fantasy tale, set in a richly realised world, centred round a young character who rapidly finds himself deep in a web of conspiracies he is barely able to survive despite his skills.'
