Fflur Dafydd follows Hay success with award

Fflur Dafydd has won the Daniel Owen Memorial Prize at the National Eisteddfod of Wales for her Welsh-language novel, Y Llyfrgell ( The Library ).


The award follows another at this year's Guardian Hay Festival. where she won the 2009 Oxfam Hay Emerging Writer of the Year for her English-language novel Twenty Thousand Saints.

Set in the National Library of Wales in 2020, The Library follows a group of characters during the course of a day when two armed, female librarians take the readers hostage in the reading room. The judges of the competition praised the work as having a brimful of humour, unforgettable characters, and an excellent narrative . Welsh publisher Y Lolfa has just published a Welsh-language edition, while Dafydd, who is represented by AM Heath, is now working on her second English-language novel.
