The Crime Writers' Association Daggers - the most prestigious UK awards for crime books - are to merge with the ITV3 Crime Thriller Awards to form the Specsavers Crime Thriller Awards on ITV3 .
The awards will take place at the Grosvenor House hotel on Wednesday 21 October 2009, and will be broadcast later in the month. They are produced for ITV3 by Cactus, the company behind Richard and Judy.
Crime Writers Association Chair Margaret Murphy said: 'This exciting partnership with Cactus TV and ITV3 will enable us to create a mass media platform for the Crime Writers Association's proud heritage in recognising great crime writing talent.' The CWA, Specsavers, ITV3 and Cactus have signed a three-year deal.
In the run-up to the awards, ITV will broadcast profiles of Colin Dexter, Ian Rankin, P'D James, Lynda La Plante, Val McDermid and Ruth Rendell.
The awards to be presented are: The CWA Gold Dagger; The CWA John Creasey (New Blood) Dagger; The CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger; The ITV3 Bestseller's Dagger, voted for by ITV3 viewers; The Hall of Fame honouring the achievements of the genre's greatest exponents, past and present; The Film Dagger; The TV Dagger; The International TV Dagger; The Best Actress Dagger; The Best Actor Dagger.

Shortlists for the awards will be announced on Friday, 4 September.
