Author Amelia Davis has worked at Jim Marshall Photography for over 20 years

Bridget Watson Payne, executive editor at Chronicle Books (distributed by Abrams & Chronicle in the UK and Europe), has signed Jim Marshall: Show Me the Picture: Images and Stories from Photography Legend Jim Marshall by Amelia Davis. A documentary film, Show Me the Picture: The Story of Jim Marshall, opens this month. Chronicle has world rights directly from Amelia Davis at Jim Marshall Photography, and will publish in August.

Davis said: "I started as Jim Marshall's assistant over 20 years ago, which turned into a lifelong friendship. With this book and movie I wanted to shatter the stereotype of an over indulging music photographer and share the sensitive and human side of Jim Marshall which allowed him to capture the inner depths of his subjects. His skill with the camera and his empathy for the underdog allows the viewer to share his journey through life and to see him as one of the most important documentarians of the 20th century."

Watson Payne said: "Chronicle Books has a long and proud relationship with Jim Marshall and his work. He was truly the foremost rock photographer of his era, and it's incredibly exciting to now be bringing forth the big, beautiful, career-spanning book that his tremendous body of work deserves. I'm hopeful Show Me the Picture will not only be embraced by his fans and fans of the music, but will also introduce Jim's astounding images to a whole new generation."
