Random House Children's Books and Children's Books Ireland (CBI) have teamed up to create a competition for young people in Ireland. The competition challenges young readers to draw their own, alternative front cover designs for The Magician , the second book in Michael Scott's best-selling series, which contains set-pieces and action scenes all of which are open to interpretation by young people. The winning entry will receive signed books and a wooden art chest, while the school attended by the winning entrant will receive 500 of RHCB books. The Magician - which spent 16 weeks on the NYT hardback bestsellers list - publishes in paperback on 25 June, alongside The Sorceress, the latest title in the best-selling Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series, which has so far been translated into 24 languages and is for sale in 34 countries. Film rights have been bought by Mark Burnett and New Line cinema, and the first movie is in development.
