Scottish Book Trust's gifting and events promotion runs this week

This is Bookbug Week in Scotland, with Bookbug's Big Picnic the theme of the Scottish Book Trust promotion.

A selection of songs and rhymes for the events is available at the Scottish Book Trust website or through the Bookbug app. The charity is also distributing "Bookbug song and rhyme mats", and partnering oat snacks maker Stoats to offer "Stoaters" bars at events in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness. Stoats is running competitions across its social media channels, with books and Bookbug dolls as prizes.

Joseph Coelho will star at an event at the Hidden Gardens in Glasgow as part of his Scottish Friendly Children's Book Tour, and an Authors Live event with illustrator Emily MacKenzie will be broadcast to schools and nurseries.

The week is funded by the Scottish government and Creative Scotland. Bookbug gives every child in Scotland four free bags of books in his or her first five years.

Maree Todd, minister for children and young people, said: "Bookbug's Big Picnic helps to encourage an early love of books among children whilst also providing great opportunities for parents, carers and their children to spend time together, learning through reading and singing."
