East End festival for writers of colour
The second Bare Lit festival for writers of colour will take place on 22 and 23 April at Toynbee Studios in East London.
Speakers will include Robyn Travis (Mama Can't Raise No Man, Own It!), Bibi Bakare-Yusuf (Cassava Press), Leone Ross (Come Let Us Sing Anyway, Peepal Tree), Sangeeta Bandyopadhyay (Panty, Tilted Axis), Valisa Iskandar (Fixi London), Sabrina Mahfouz (The Things I Would Tell You, Saqi), Lopè Ariyo (Hibiscus, HarperCollins), Ali Bader (Iraq plus 100, Comma Press), Angela Saini (Inferior, 4th Estate), Olumide Popoola (When We Speak of Nothing, Cassava Republic), and Wei Ming Kam (BAME in publishing).
Kerry Young (Show Me a Mountain, Bloomsbury Circus) will give the keynote speech, sponsored by the Royal Literary Fund.
Bare Lit has published an anthology with Brain Mill Press. The book features work by participants in the 2016 festival, and is edited by Courttia Newland, Kavita Bhanot, and Mend Mariwany.
