Benjamin Zephaniah, Margaret Heffernan to give keynotes

Writer and activist Benjamin Zephaniah (right) and entrepreneur and TED speaker Margaret Heffernan are to give keynote speeches at the 2018 Booksellers Association (BA) conference, which takes place at Conference Centre Aston, Birmingham on 9 and 10 September.

Also on the programme are an afternoon tea hosted by HarperCollins and starring Anna James, Bridget Collins, and Mel Golding; and a Hodder author breakfast with Vaseem Khan.

The two-day event launches with the Gardners Trade Show on Sunday 9 September, followed by bookselling sessions in the afternoon and the conference dinner, hosted by the Independent Alliance. Authors at the dinner will include Chris Brookmyre and Sarah Moss. Monday will be a day of business sessions centred on the Skills Labs, and covering areas including inclusive bookselling, bookshop events and support of staff. The sponsor of the day is the Unwin Charitable Trust. Pan Macmillan, celebrating its 175th anniversary, will host the Monday dinner, where the Pan 175 Indie Awards will be announced.

Meryl Halls, BA managing director, said: "The BA Conference is sure to be a great success again, with a fantastic line-up of speakers, authors and business sessions. We're looking forward to a full two days of talks, networking and panel discussions, which are sure to get conversations ignited."
