Sam Michaels' debut, Trickster, will be out in ebook in April and pb in July

Hannah Smith, commissioning editor at Aria (Head of Zeus), has signed a five-book deal with debut author Sam Michaels for a series of books set in the years following World War One and featuring Georgina Garrett, a ruthless East End criminal. Aria has world English rights through Judith Murdoch.

Trickster, Michaels' debut, will be out in ebook in April and in paperback in July. It opens as the young Georgina's criminal father decides to raise her as George, marking the start of her life of crime.

Smith said: "Sam's writing is beyond brilliant, Trickster is full of phenomenal characters, an atmospheric setting and a kick-ass heroine who isn't afraid to give as good as she gets. It was such an original concept that simply blew me away. It's an absolute pleasure to publish Sam, I devoured her submission - it was the perfect antidote for my Peaky Blinders withdrawal!"

Michaels, who lives in Spain, said: "I was thrilled when my agent, Judith Murdoch, secured a publishing contract with Aria and Head of Zeus. It's very exciting to be working with a dynamic team and as we go into 2019, I'm looking forward to growing with them and becoming a successful author."
