The Little Tiger Group imprint signs Whiteout by debut author Gabriel Dylan as its tenth Red Eye title

Commissioning editor Katie Jennings bought world rights for the novel from Polly Nolan at the Greenhouse Literary Agency. Whiteout will be the tenth title on Stripes’ bestselling Red Eye list, which launched in 2015 with Alex Bell’s Frozen Charlotte.

Jennings said: "Red Eye books get under your skin and linger long after reading, and Whiteout does exactly that. Debut author Gabriel Dylan delivers chills and thrills by the bucketload, creating a cast of characters you desperately want to see escape their snowbound captivity. One thing’s for sure, after reading this you’ll never want to go skiing again..."

According to the acquisition statement: 'Perfect for fans of Dawn Kurtagich, Juno Dawson and Charlie Higson, Whiteout is a gripping psychological horror set in a remote Alpine ski resort with a chilling past. It takes place during a school ski trip which descends into terror when a snowstorm cuts off the group from the rest of the world. For, as Charlie and his classmates are about to discover, something ancient and evil lies in wait...

'The Red Eye list is at the forefront of the recent resurgence in horror, for which Nielsen BookScan saw its highest sales in four years in 2017. Frozen Charlotte was selected as part of Zoella’s Book Club with WH Smiths in autumn 2016, and Stripes frequently hears glowing feedback directly from school librarians and teachers, demonstrating the demand and appetite for young adult horror titles. Stripes are delighted to launch Gabriel Dylan’s career with his addition to the Red Eye list.'

Dylan said: "I’m so excited and honoured to be joining the Red Eye team – I’m a huge horror and YA fan and to combine the two and have it published by Stripes is a dream come true. My novel, about a group of 6th form students trapped in a ski resort by supernatural forces and kept alive by a spiky, uncompromising teen heroine, is aimed at anyone who likes their horror with a fresh, modern twist."

As well as a writer, Dylan is described as: 'a surfer, snowboarder and secondary-school teacher. The inspiration for his first novel came from being snowed in whilst leading a school skiing trip. Gabriel is based in Gloucestershire.'

Stripes will publish Whiteout on 10 January as part of the YA horror range, Red Eye.
