Romance author signs four-book deal

Jo Thomas is moving from Headline to Transworld in a four-book deal negotiated by David Headley at DHH. Editorial director Francesca Best signed UK and Commonwealth rights to the novels, starting with The Lavender Farm (spring 2020).

Thomas won the RNA Katie Fforde Bursary in 2013, and the RNA Joan Hessayon Award a year later. She has since published five further novels, and has two more to come from Headline this year.

The Lavender Farm is the story of a British woman whose move to France with her husband goes unexpectedly awry, and who determines to reclaim her own life among the Provence lavender fields.

Best said: "Jo's utterly genuine warmth and fun imbue her books with the perfect combination of empowerment and adventure. She transports the reader to a wonderful new foreign setting and introduces us to a mouthwatering local delicacy along the way - what more could you want? She deserves to reach the widest possible audience and we're hugely ambitious for her future."

Thomas said: "I'm delighted to be joining the team at Transworld. I have had a fantastic time at Headline and can't thank Jennifer Doyle enough for her support and the time I've had there. I am now thoroughly looking forward to this new chapter in my writing journey and am of course delighted to be reunited with deputy marketing director Vicky Palmer, working with Francesca Best and the rest of the team there and am excited about their plans for the future."
