European Council rubberstamps Directive to slash VAT on digital products; 'reasons to celebrate after years of hard work' says FEP
The umbrella group representing publishers across Europe, the FEP (Federation of European Publishers), has welcomed the adoption of the Directive on reduced VAT for e-publications. Following the political agreement reached by the EU on 2 October, the Council this week formally adopted the proposed Directive. The change will mean the application of reduced rates of VAT to electronic publications, in line with those currently applied to publications on physical supports.
Rudy Vanschoonbeek, president of FEP (pictured), said: "Our efforts have been rewarded. "We have a reason to celebrate, together with all those who supported us along all these years of hard work."
