Scottish indie signs with Ingram's Consortium, giving access to US market

A full-service North American distributor, Consortium represents 140 publishers, including Charco's fellow indies Profile Books, Serpent’s Tail, And Other Stories, and Fitzcarraldo Editions.

Samuel McDowell, co-founder and director of Charco Press, said: "We are very excited to be partnering with Consortium, enabling us to bring our family of amazing authors direct to readers in the U.S. and Canada. We feel North America has strong potential for Charco given its proximity to Latin America, history of migration and the prominent cultural influences that are ingrained in everyday life. North America is also currently the fastest growing source of web sales for us. Consortium is an ideal partner and has a fantastic reputation within the trade."

Consortium will commence distribution with five Charco titles in its coming autumn season, led by Resistance by Brazilian Julián Fuks, and the 2018 International Man Booker longlisted Die, My Love by Argentinean author Ariana Harwicz.

Founded in July 2017 and based in Edinburgh, Charco Press focuses on finding contemporary Latin American literature and bringing it to readers in the English-speaking world for the first time.
