David McKee's Elmer will be 30 next year

Andersen Press is entering a partnership with anti-bullying charity Kidscape during 2019, Elmer the Patchwork Elephant's 30th anniversary year. Elmer is to be the ambassador for the charity's annual Friendship Friday activities starting in November, and will feature in online and printed resources for teachers and classrooms. The packs are available for every school in the country.

Kidscape will contribute to Andersen Press' Elmer Day pack for schools.

David McKee, creator of Elmer, said: "If Elmer can help in any way, no matter how small, to encourage friendships then he will, he tells me, feel very proud. As will I as his creator."

The partnership between Andersen and Kidscape was brokered by Louis Kennedy, an agency that identifies strategic opportunities for brands and charities.

Elmer Day celebrations will take place on 25 May next year, and there will be a retrospective of David McKee's illustration at Seven Stories the National Centre for Children's Books. "Elmer's Big Art Parades" family art trails will feature more than 150 Elmer statues around the UK, in aid of three hospice charities.

Penguin Ventures is in discussion with existing and potential new toy and game partners to enhance the range of Elmer merchandise.

The Elmer books have been translated into more than 50 languages.
